Last Week of School Schedule

Here is what’s going on next week!

Monday, 6/4- Field Day (9:30-11:30) & Award Ceremony (2:15 in the classroom)

**Please make sure your child wears sneakers and comfortable clothing for Field Day. Please apply sunscreen BEFORE they come to school. A change of clothes is recommended. A pizza lunch will be provided for students.**

Tuesday, 6/5- Ice Cream Party and Movie Day (bring your favorite DVD, must be rated G)

Wednesday, 6/6- Summer Birthday Celebration and Board Game Day (bring your favorite board game)

Thursday, 6/7- Last Day of School! Dismissal is at 12:00 PM.

Mem Fox Author Study

 This week we have begun our author study on Mem Fox. An author study is "a series of lessons that develop students as critical readers through analysis of a specific author. The study is used to develop a students' understanding and proficiency of specific elements used by an author as he or she progresses through the series of lessons." (America's Choice, Mem Fox Author Study Version 3, 2003 NCEE) We have read the book, Time for Bed, and have discussed the characters, interesting language/new words, connections, wonderings, and the theme. We are asking students to explore Mem Fox's website and jot down a few facts they have learned about her to contribute to our "All About Mem Fox" chart.

  

Pronouns

We have been working on pronouns in skills. Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun. We have played some pretty fun games in class, so here they are for you to enjoy at home!

We had another great time with our 5th grade Science buddies! We have been learning about animal needs, so we made bird feeders! Thank you to all the moms and dads that sent in the supplies so we could make this fun treat for birds! Here are some pictures to show you what a great learning experience we had. :)

We have now learned about nouns (people, places, and things) and VERBS (an action word; something you do)! Here are a couple games that we have played in class that our students wanted us to post so they can play them at home! We love that our students love to learn ALL day, not just at school! :) Have fun gaming!
